RIP FORMER MEMBERS
- Former member of Pahiatua, Willie Burmeister died last Wednesday. Our condolences have been sent to his wife Janet and family. Both Willie and Janet were long time members and stalwarts of the Pahiatua Golf club until leaving the district to retire in Tauranga around late 2003. They both continued to play their golf at Omokoroa. A quick look at the honours boards, I see that he was Junior champion in 1979, Intermediate in 1979 and Senior in 1995, 98 and 2002.
- Tony Lozell’s uncle Ken Southam, another former member, died suddenly yesterday. He was a member several years ago. He was still playing his golf at Omanu and had a round of 83 as late as last Wednesday. Ken used to live by the 17th tee.

OUR NEWEST LIFE MEMBER At the AGM last week, Marion was awarded life membership of the golf club in recognition of all she has done for the club over a very long period of time. A member for over 50 years, and although she has not held an executive position she served on the ladies’ committee for more than 20 years. She received a Good Service Award for all her work and even now she continues to raise money for the club, making sandwiches, helping with catering, knitting items that she sells on behalf of the club, and her tireless work selling pinecones that she picks up and bags. Her floral work for tournaments is legendary. Marion played pennants for the club, and then caddied for pennant players. Still playing competitively, she again won the Bronze 3 championship title this year. Congratulations, Marion - a very worthy recipient of a life membership. |
