PENNANT/INTERCLUB RESULTS – APOLOGIES FOR ANY ERRORS, IT’S BEEN AWHILE
18-Hole Men’s D-Grade Pennant – Matchplay in teams of 6 “off-the-stick” singles and three 4BBB pairs. The team made it though to the finals playing a very strong Tall Poppy Feilding team at Foxton on Saturday 20th June. The team was well beaten into the runners-up spot, but well done guys for getting to the finals, it was a big commitment covering almost 6 months of competition; all players who made themselves available contributed to the end result. We remain in Grade D for next year, then WHO KNOWS?
Saturday 28th February – Rd 3 at home vs Feilding 6/3 win.
Team was Steven McHardy, Lee Thomson, Kelsey Beales, Danny Pierey, Brett MacDougall and Brett Richards.
14th March – Rd 4 played Palmerston North away 6/3 win.
The team was Andy Gratton, Lee, Steven, Jason Smith, Jared Brock and Kelsey.
Saturday 28th March – Rd 5 we had a bye
Saturday 11th March – Rd 6 vs Hawkestone here at home, we had a half.
Team of Lee, Steven, Nigel Pearson, Kelsey, Brett MacD and Brett R.
Saturday 18th April – Rd 7 away at Tawhero 6/3 win.

Playing that day were Lee, Jared, Nigel, Brett R, Jason and Kelsey. The last of round robin was on 6th June, we had the bye.
Saturday 20th June – Finals vs Tall Poppy Feilding at Foxton 1½ - 7½ loss.
Players, Steven, Nigel, Brett R, Jason and Kelsey.
Marquis Shield – Men’s Wairarapa interclub had quite a bit of disruption with dates due to the unavailability of some courses for the earlier rounds. The final round was played here on Sunday when we played eventual runaway winners Eketahuna. They won the Marquis Shield by 11½ points from the second-place team. Our team finished in 5th place, disappointing after being so close to winning last year. Roll on 2027.
Dates, rounds, results and teams below:
26th April - Rd 1 at Mahunga vs Carterton, 7½ - 10½ loss.
Lee Thomson, Jason Smith, Nigel Pearson, Logan McHardy, Lionel Toheriri Todd McHardy, Brett MacDougall, Mark Hemopo, Sam Gordon Tony Kerins, Jared Bambry and Graham Thomson.

26th July – Rd 4 at Masterton vs Mahunga 11½ - 6½ loss.

30th August – Rd 5 at Pahiatua vs Eketahuna 6½ - 11/½ loss.
Lee, Jason, Jared Brock, Nigel, Lucas, Jeremy, Lionel, Sam, Peter, Joseph Ferrier, Graham and Ian.
Weekend Pennant – Women’s Manawatu-Wanganui pennants. 2-person team, playing singles and 4BBB on handicap. On Sunday 1st March our team of Colleen Daysh and Seona Ashton recorded another clean sweep for the club in round 2 with a 3-0 win over Feilding Green at Wanganui. Then on 15th March Colleen and Bronwyn Smith won 2/1in round 3 at Feilding vs Palmerston North Black.
After a bye at home on 19th April, on 17th May at Manawatu Pam Bisset and Colleen lost 3-nil to Wanganui who are proving to be our nemesis! This put us through to the semis, but as we were second in our division, we had to play Castlecliff away at Castlecliff where Colleen and Bronwyn played themselves into the finals with a 2½ - ½ win.
This brought us to Foxton on 20th June to play that Wanganui team again. We started roughly and couldn’t get it back on track. Runners-up, like our pennant men, narrowly losing all matches on the 17th. GREAT BUS TRIP THOUGH!
Monday Pennant – Women’s Manawatu-Wanganui pennants comprising 6 players also playing singles and 4BBB on handicap. Our team of Lisa Cotton, Steph Tisdall, Sally Dryland, Colleen Daysh, Seona Ashton and Paula McCool lost 6/3 to Manawatu at Wanganui in round 1.
16th March - Rd 2 the team of Lisa, Steph, Pam Bisset, Janelle Toheriri, Sally and Seona had a half with Wanganui at Feilding. On 30th March as we hosted round 3, our team had a bye.
20th April – Rd 4 at Levin vs Palmerston North, a narrow 4/5 loss.
Janelle, Pam, Steph, Seona, Lynne Huddleston and Raewyn Newman.
11th May – Rd 5 at Marton vs Rangatira Blue, a big 1½ - 7½ loss.
Lisa, Janelle, Pam, Steph, Sally and Raewyn.
25th May, we won the semi-final vs Levin at Rangatira 6½ - 2½.
Lisa, Pam, Janelle, Steph, Colleen and Seona. This same team went on to play the finals on 8th June at Rangitikei where we lost 3/6 to Feilding. The Monday Pennant was won by Marton.
Riverside Cup – a Wairarapa interclub competition, teams of 6 playing handicap matchplay. This is our second year of playing in this competition. Rounds 1 and 2 were reported in the last newsletter.
Friday 20th March – Rd 3 we were the hosts and had a bye.
17th April – Rd 4 vs Carterton at Masterton, 5/1 win.
Janelle Toheriri, Pam Bisset, Steph Tisdall, Colleen Daysh, Raewyn Newman and Mary Bollard.
15th May – Rd 5 vs Castlepoint at Martinborough, halved result
Janelle, Pam, Steph, Seona, Colleen and Raewyn.
19th June – Rd 6 vs Martinborough at Riversdale Beach, 1½ - 4½ loss.
Pam, Janelle, Steph, Seona, Raewyn and Deirdre Power.
3rd July – Rd 7 vs Eketahuna at Carterton – halved result which pipped Eketahuna winning the Cup outright which they now share with Martinborough. We finished in 4th place, 5 points behind the winners.
Pam, Janelle, Steph, Raewyn, Deirdre and Roanna Sutton.
Rew & McCracken – a team nett competition in Wairarapa which was won by us last year. Played at Carterton, we came up short to defend by 3 shots – winners Martinborough scored a combined nett 452 to our 455. Any of our team of Janelle, Steph, Colleen, Raewyn, Seona or Paula McCool would say we could’ve picked up 3 or 4 shots that day, but that’s golf!!
OTHER NEWS
Winter Cup rules: See dates above. Open to all club members. You need to select YES at the kiosk when you get your card to be in the Winter Cup and enter your score or you won’t be in the competition.
Points are available on Saturday and Sunday. You must play the Winter Cup round in conjunction with club prescribed start times; you cannot play for the Cup outside of the normal club tee-off timings. If you play on both days of the weekend, then we will take your best finish out of the two days.
Points up for grabs: 5 points for 1st, 3 Points for 2nd, 2 points for 3rd and 1 point for 4th.
2-Person Ambrose rules: See dates above. You must register your cards and teams with Lee at 9.45 before 10am tee off. Best 2 cards out of 3 rounds to count. For this competition, both players must use 8 tee-offs each, the other 2 holes normal Ambrose until the ball is holed. Ambrose is both tee off, select the best positioned ball and your partner picks up their ball and you both hit again from that spot, taking into consideration the required tee-off rules of play.
Club Shirts: There is a selection of club shirts upstairs in the clubhouse for sale. Children’s sizes are $35, adults $45.
Pinecones: Marion Hunt has sold her last bag of pinecones, and over the years of collecting, has raised in excess of $1500 for the club. If anyone would like to take up the mantle and collect to fundraise for the club, I’m sure that the committee would love to hear from you. The pinecones belong to the golf club, so please, resist or desist taking any for personal use, or sale.
President Sam has asked me to remind you to repair your ball (pitch) marks on the greens.
Key Details on Repair Times
- Properly Repaired: Recovers in 24-48 hours.
- Unrepaired: Takes 2-3 weeks to heal, sometimes up to 2 months.
- Incorrectly Repaired: Can take up to 4 weeks or longer to heal.
- Best Practice: Repair immediately, as damage left for just two hours can take two months to heal.
How to Properly Repair
- Use a repair tool or tee to gently push the edges of the depression towards the centre, rather than lifting from the bottom, which tears the roots.
- Pat the area flat with your putter.
- Do not replace torn-up turf; let the surrounding grass grow over the hole.
Cape Kidnappers club trip: On 22nd August, 28 club members along with a group of four from Hawkestone went up and played Cape Kidnappers, one of the top courses in the country. Normally the price would be out of the reach of most of us, but with a generous discount we were able to take advantage of their promotional offer. It was a great day, the weather was fine and sunny, with not too much wind, so almost perfect conditions. A very enjoyable day.
LATEST RESULTS E&OE – this is lengthy, when I couldn’t decipher the writing, I checked on Dot Golf for results.
