FROM THE COMMITTEE TABLE

Membership:

John Southee and Jason Griggs have re-joined, while Colin Wallace changed his membership to full. We had resignations from Margaret Alding, Kathy Shilvock and Carol Allmand.

Tee Signs:

Still some to be erected or provided by the sponsors

Course/Clubhouse bookings:

Eagles Triangular tournament 1st May, Federated Farmers 16th May.

Possible tree removal:

It is to be investigated whether to remove the gum tree behind #4 green and the one at the right of #14.

Course Report:

Disease is rife in the greens, will be hard tined. Some contact spraying being done, with systemic spraying into the root system to kill off, greens have some pitting, have been sanded, not dethatched. It is planned to fine-tine the greens to open up and let them breathe, to aerate.

Steve Cullen – Apprenticeship:

Steve has been signed up to an apprenticeship course for 12months through ITO while still volunteering on the course. He starts at Level 3 NZ Certificate of Sports Turf Management. There is a cost to the club but this will be more than off-set as we will still have Steve 3 days a week as a volunteer. His 5-years at the club as a volunteer have been invaluable.

Marquis Shield:

The team enjoyed a good win over Mahunga here at home in March. Next round is at Martinborough on 5th May.

Tradies Tournament:

There were 57 in the field. The club made over $3000.

Junior Tournament to be held on Sunday 28th April. Advertising has been done; see this newsletter for further details.

Pahiatua New World and Bisset Honda Tournament:

Stableford tournament, tee off at 10.30. There will be men, women and non-golfer sections. Advertising has been done. See this newsletter for more details. The Saturday competition is Watson Cup – those playing in the tournament should score par as well as stableford.

Denny Bourke 1-club Anzac Day hit-out:

All invited to play - $10 entry fee with mutton prizes. Tee off is 12 noon Thursday 26th April. Pick a club – only one club to play with. I hear that Denny had a 77 playing in this one year.

Men’s Club Shirts:

The first lot of club shirts for men have been received and look really good. The tops are $45 each – there are some available right now. Those representing the club at Marquis Shield are encouraged to purchase one.

If you would like one, please contact Richard Stewart 027 273 0661.

Thanks, Richard for arranging these.

I suppose ladies could get one too (they are available in ladies’ sizings) especially now as Rangitikei has stolen our current design. See Sue.

POP parking

It was noted that our charge of $10 per person per night (plus 9 holes of golf) is not in line with other POP parking areas. It was decided to charge $10 per night per vehicle, no golf included.

Championship Qualifying:

It was decided (by the men) that all men members would be put into the championship draws to encourage more participation, especially from those who are new to the club and to golf. Those who do not wish to play in the championships can just cross out their names by the play-by date and put their opponent through. All enquiries should be made to Tony Lozell or Peter Bourke.

The Byrne Cup which was traditionally played alongside qualifying will still be played on the dates set down in the programme. A medal round, best 3 of 4 cards, It is a senior (up to 18 handicap) and junior (19 and over) competition. The ladies will still play their best 2 of four qualifying rounds.

Local Rules for new scorecards: More on this next week.
