TIDBITS FROM THE COMMITTEE MEETING

Membership We have gained 30 new members this season bringing our total to 179, made up of 133 men and 46 women and includes 30 juniors.

Day and Carthew Cup and Fourball Championship: Please enter your name on the sheets on the board in the men’s locker room if you wish to play in the Day or Carthew Cup or Fourball this year.

The Day cup is for senior men index up to 18.0 (15 handicap), and Carthew cup is for junior men handicaps 18.1 index and over (15 – 52 handicap) as at the end of May. The competition is handicap matchplay on a knockout basis.

Fourball Championship is also on knockout handicap matchplay with chosen partners, one senior and one junior (handicaps as for Day and Carthew Cups as at end of May).

Please ensure you are available to play your matches if you enter – last year the final of Carthew Cup was not completed, we don’t want a repeat of that.

NEW MEMBERS: Welcome, Les and Luke Beardmore to the club. Hope you enjoy your golf here. Say Hi when you see them around the course.

MARQUIS SHIELD TEAM WINS AT MASTERTON:

A strong showing by our Marquis Shield team on Sunday produced awesome results! Well done to the team – Senior: Kieran Pierey, Noel Coombe, Danny Pierey and Nigel Pearson, Intermediate: Steven McHardy, Lionel Toheriri, Shaun Smith and Richard Stewart and Juniors: Mark Thomson, Brett MacDougall, Tony Lozell and Todd McHardy. The team won their singles matches 8 ½ to 3 ½ and fourball matches 5 to 1 to take the team win of 4 points. Congratulations to you all.

The team’s standings are 1st Marquis Shield (overall points), 2nd Workman Cup (senior off the stick), 2nd Intermediate Cup (intermediates on handicap), and 1st Sutherland Trophy (juniors on handicap). Looks like we might need to find a more permanent home for the Sutherland Trophy instead of propping it against the wall or unit. The next outing is on 13th June at Martinborough against the home team.

LADIES PENNANT:

On Monday, the Silver team of Pam Bisset, Lindy Wheeler, Colleen Daysh and Deb Henricksen played Rangatira Blue in trying conditions at Wanganui and had a half while the District team played Castlecliff at Levin and lost 1-4.

Next Monday, the teams play another round. The Silver team as above play at Marton vs Eketahuna while the District team of Pam Huddleston, Margaret Brislane, Paula McCool and Trish Cuttance will play at Manawatu vs Castlecliff. Good luck, ladies.
