PGC Newsletter 24.12.2019

NEW MEMBERS

Welcome to David Crispin as a new junior non-competitive member. David’s mum Tracy is a member of our club. They supported Twilight until it finished last week, but will both be back as soon as it resumes (9th January)  – welcome David to the wonderful world of golf.

Welcome also to Grant Thurlow from Mangamaire who joins us from Te Puke. Wish him all the best if you should see him around the course.

Hi as well to Shane Walker, also a new member who is a big fan of our club – again, make sure you make Shane welcome when you see him around the course.

BUSH CLASSIC ENTRIES NOW STAND AT 115 – LIMITED TO 128

The President has asked me to pass on to you all that only 8 of our members have entered – this is disappointing as we should be supporting our flagship tournament, the Bush Classic. It is a great source of revenue for our club AND we play on our own course. The prize pool is exceptional. If you have no reason not to, please come and play – Pete

Remember, if you would like me to enter you in the Bush Classic, either give me your entry fee or put it in the green fees box with your entry and it will happen, ring Colleen or Pam B or email bushclassicgolf@gmail.com

FROM THE COMMITTEE MEETING 14.12.2019:

Tree harvesting: This is going well. Most of the trees are bound for export which is good for us – our first cheque is due on 25th December, a nice Christmas present, I hope. Fears of problems with the trucks coming into the carpark and any possible damage occurring to the driveway have proven to be unfounded. Next lot to be harvested are the trees at the teeing area of #14. The club will work with landowner Dennis Dougherty for removal though his property.

LVA coming up: Mark this day – Tuesday 14th January – details later.

Hazard ID board: This is up on the building, check for any activity you may need to know about

Fowler Homes: Steve and Regan will be sponsoring our Christmas Cheer from next year. We are currently also receiving $1000 per home built in our area, to date $3000.

Greenkeepers contract: Has been extended for a further year.

Committee co-option: Due to a lack of a full committee, it was decided at the meeting to co-opt Colin Wallace on to the committee. We welcome Duey onto the committee and thank him for making himself available

Secretary: We are looking at inviting a person who will come to our next meeting with a view to taking on the Secretarial duties.

Twilight – the town signs: The meeting approved advertising MacDougalls Twilight teams on the 3 boards at the entrances to town. We have purchased 2 weeks from 29th December, but the signs will remain up if there is no interest from other users after the two weeks. It was felt that even if people might already know about twilight, it will heighten the profile of the club.

COMING UP THIS WEEK:

CHRISTMAS DAY - Wednesday, 25th December – Merry Christmas, everyone

Thursday, 26th December – Summer haggle

Saturday 28th December – Stableford

Sunday 29th December – Stableford

Tuesday 31st December – Ladies Summer golf – 9am tee off, make up your own groups

MESSAGE FROM LINTON CAMP - NZDF intends to minimise risk within Linton Camp during its low manning period. To that end Green Fee players can only access the Linton Camp golf course if accompanied by a club member or someone who works within the camp. This will be in effect until 6th January when normal requirements (photo ID) will resume. The Club apologises for any inconvenience.
