 WINTER CUP COMPETITION

This season, we changed our weekend competitions around to play the majority in the summer/autumn, and by doing this, it has created a gap in the winter. However, I am pleased to announce that we have a new competition starting for the winter. A trophy has been generously donated by Graham (Rat) Thomson, named “The Gerald Smith Memorial Winter Cup” and is open to both men and women.

The competition will be played over 6 rounds (Saturday and Sunday at our normal club tee times unless stated otherwise) and will start on Saturday 29th June. These will comprise 2 Par rounds, 2 Stableford rounds and 2 Medal rounds.

The competition scoring system on the day will happen like this:

  • 1st place will get 5 points
  • 2nd place will get 3 points
  • 3rd place will get 2 points
  • 4th place will get 1 point

Also, everyone will get 1 point for turning up on club day. Of course, you can’t double dip on both days! So, whoever has the most points after the six rounds will be the winner, however, if there is a tie for first, then it will be a chip-off from the balcony for the closest to the pin on number 2 green.

I’ll have a spreadsheet going for this competition and will update you all after the fifth round.

The draw is:

  • Round 1 - Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June – Medal
  • Round 2 – Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th July – Stableford
  • Round 3 – Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th July – Par
